Fat Spatula is the studio and design space of Haumoana based artist Andy Heyward.
It is the conception area of many creative pursuits. Within it’s walls, ideas are dreamt, coffee is consumed, paintings are realised and laughter is had.
I was born tiny but now I am much bigger.
I am an artist, a painter, a lover, and a father.
I like to create things.
While being a self-employed graphic artist for a living I also paint on a regular basis. I am a director and curator of two social-enterprise stores in Hawke’s Bay, Coco and Co in Hastings and The Department of Curiosities and Fine Things in Napier, as well as stocking many fine stores throughout New Zealand. I can also be found at craft markets and shows pimping my art and craft products under the label Fat Spatula.
I consider my work to be deeply shallow and I enjoy bringing a smile to peoples faces. I prefer it when others do the intellectualising about my work, they can often find more meaningful and deeper insights than I was aware of. I am just in this for the laughs . . . and world domination.
